Whew! It's amazing when something comes along and makes your day special, and you never know what that might turn out to be... My friend Wilton and I, two recalcitrant artist types here in lovely San Francisco, found ourselves running in to the SOMARTS gallery to escape a torrential rain... we got into the doors and were just breathing a sigh of relief when suddenly an awning above the very door we had entered seemed to give way, and that the drains outside the doors were sludged full of mud. This concatenation of events evolved into a precipitous moment as a veritable river suddenly found it's way down through the awning right in front of the doorway, and deluged the entryway, starting a flood of horrid proportion and potentially devastating effect to the gallery... Wilton saw the proximity of the reception desk and it's computer and electrical equipment were in peril of being shorted out and quickly acted to remove the electrical equipment and computer at the desk from danger, whilst i grabbed some plastic hefty bags and rolled them up and placed them under the doorway where water was freely flowing in to the gallery like a river. then we started looking for things to use to create a barrier... by now everyone in the gallery had mobilized to address the emergency... we barracaded the doors with mopheads and sandbags, a courageous artist named Justin went out into the storm to try to block the water while Wilton started to scour the mud out of the drains outside the door. I went out to help and we all got soaked through, but succeeded in our efforts. Then everyone inside were unplugging electrical and lights at the displays and exhibits, and mopping up the water as fast as we could. By an hour and a half later, we were all looking at a drying floor and an averted disaster. The fabulous "DAY OF THE DEAD" gallery show had been saved from potential entire disasterous ruin by our quick action in the situation... I'm tired as heck now and feeling somewhat the unsung hero, and delighted that God put me in the right place at the right time... thanks Big Guy...
