Chichén Itzá : At the spring (March 21) and autumn equinoxes, the sun's shadow creates the illusion of a snake moving down the pyramid. Hence the carved snakeheads at the bottom of the staircase as well as the pyramid’s Mayan name Kukulkán, the plumed serpent god. Mayan stories recorded the arrival of a king named Kukulkan, the Serpent God. Kukulkan defeated the Mayan city tribes, and made Chichén Itzá his capital.
I'm thining of using Kulkulkan at the base of my pyramid for the SOMArts Day of the Dead exhibition in Oct. He's the plumed serpent god that defeated local tribal towns and built Chichen Itza. Replicating the shadow effect of the snake coming down the steps is the challenge now...
